A message from Don Horisberger
Spirit of Stewardship: Music and Stewardship
There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the
same spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord;
there are different workings but the same God who produces all of
them in everyone. (1 Corinthians 12:4-6)
The music of our worship here at CHS exemplifies
stewardship. We are reminded that stewardship may
be defined as "utilizing and managing all resources God provides
for the glory of God and the betterment of [God's]
creation." We are also reminded that stewardship
encompasses time and talent as well as treasure. In both
instances, our music program is a clear example of stewardship.
Music is a gift from God, and has been present in one
form or another since time began. Our heritage of sacred music
forms a treasure entrusted to us, the Church, for safe-keeping.
Through the millennia to the present day, composers have been
inspired to express their love for that which is sacred through
music. And when we worship, we offer music to the glory of God,
giving back to God what God has given us.
According to author Leo Buscaglia, "Your talent is
God's gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to
God." The members of the choirs here at CHS are resounding
examples of this. They make a generous donation of time,
preparing diligently and faithfully the music they will sing or
ring. They draw upon their God-given talent, share it with
others in community, and strive to make the music we offer back to
God the best gift we have.
As we, The Church of the Holy Spirit, strive to be good
stewards of the gifts of God, let us remember that the music of our
worship is a gift from God that flows through us as we offer our
praise to God. Whenever we sing a hymn, hear a choir, or listen
to the organ, we serve as stewards of God's gift of music.
"Let every instrument be tuned for praise!
Let all rejoice who have a voice to raise!
And may God give us faith to sing always Alleluia!"
from Hymn 420, "When in our music God is
glorified" (Words: F. Pratt Green)

The CHS Food Pantry
needs your help. Due to a great demand for food from our pantry, our
supplies are diminishing quickly. We need everyone's help to
restock it with enough food to get us through the summer
months. Items we especially need are:
canned ham which does not require refrigeration; canned chicken;
tuna; spaghetti sauce; cold cereal; soup; peanut butter and jelly;
canned pears and pineapple; canned tomatoes, paste, and sauce; canned
beans including refried; small packages of muffin mixes; jello; and
bars of bath soap. If you prefer, financial donations to the
Pantry are also accepted. Thank you.
