A message from Wendy
Lane
That's a question raised by
members of St. Michael's Mission when folks in our community first
made the trek across the Great Plains and showed up for a week of
partnership on the Wind River Reservation in Ethete, Wyoming. The
experience of that community had been this: groups from all over the
country would come visit, but they rarely returned. The good people
of Ethete seemed to be looking for an ongoing partnership, a deep and
mutually sustaining relationship.
This summer, a group of CHS
folks (along with some CHS alumni) will be spending a week in
Wyoming, our 26th visit to the Wind River Reservation and our friends
at St. Michael's Mission (the Episcopal church there, now over 100
years strong)! Your fellow parishioners will spend a week leading a
bible study for young people, working on needed repairs and
construction projects at the mission, but mostly keeping the
relationship alive and well. Please know that your contributions in
pledge and other support of Mission and Outreach helps to keep this
partnership going.
The folks who visit Ethete
will enjoy the intergenerational nature of our trip, the coming
together of several generations to share in the common life of work,
worship and play. Several people who return year after year talk
about the joy of relationships born of the shared experience of
mission and tempered through the years of returning to Ethete.
People's lives are transformed, deepened in the spirit of the Wyoming
sun, wind, and worship of our loving God.
To me, the importance of the
trip we take to Ethete each year lies in the fulfillment of Jesus'
call to see him in the faces of those we serve, to be his hands and
feet in our increasingly broken world, to be his blessing. When we
share what we have with others, God wrings from our bodies and
spirits the most we could ever give, the most we could ever offer,
the most we could ever accomplish. How sweet is that, my friends?
