Music:
The Organ
The church's main organ is a particularly fine 3-manual, 50-rank
instrument by Harrison & Harrison, Ltd., of Durham, England. Built
in 1971-72, the instrument was originally installed in the north
transept of the Nave. In 1994-95 it was sent back to England for
overhaul, the addition of several stops, and installation of solid
state combination action, and was installed in chambers off the east
transept and encased. It is an instrument of particular warmth, voiced
in the "choral" style of the English cathedral tradition.
The
church also has a mechanical action 3-rank chamber organ by Harrison
& Harrison. This instrument is used to accompany early music
anthems and serves as the continuo instrument for large works with
orchestra.
