Confirmation:
Overview

At The Church of the Holy Spirit, we belive everyone is on a
spiritual journey that matters to God and so it matters to us.
Confirmation is about taking a big step in that journey. The Book of Common Prayer
tells us that "Confirmation is the rite in which we express a mature
commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through
prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop." [p. 860]
Our
Confirmation program at CHS is designed to prepare our young people for
this moment of “mature commitment.” It is our goal to provide
sufficient instruction in the Christian faith that they will be able to
make this public affirmation. Equally important is our goal to give
them an experience of Christian community, through their small group
time and their service fellowship activities.
We can only do half
the job at church; the other half will be accomplished by parents at
home. The parents’ job is to support and complement what is learned
at church. Your task is to ask about what was presented on Learning
Session Sundays, using the take-home discussion sheets as a guide.
Your role is to encourage your young people to keep ahead of the
Service Activity requirement, and to reflect after the activity on what
they have learned from doing it.
The role of the parents is to
talk with their young person about faith – why it matters, how it
relates to the rest of our lives. And perhaps the most important thing
a parent can do is to model faith. A simple way to tdo this is by
regular attendance at worship so your child sees that this is something
you value as they decide if it is something he or she should value.
