Senior High Youth Group:
S.O.S. (Service Over Self)

The outreach and service component of our youth group works with the
same goals and objectives as our church and our commitment to be ?a
serving church, where we are sent into the world in the power of the
Holy Spirit to share the Good News in word and deed.? (CHS Mission
statement).
Throughout the year we are mindful of balancing the
social, and educational component of youth group with our service
component. We have enjoyed supporting many M&O efforts so far this
year including:
- Chicago House
- Cathedral Shelter
- Food Pantry
- Nuestra Senora de Gaudalupe
- PADS
- Community Meals
- Katrina Relief
- Glen Flora
- LEAD
- Inter faith at LF College
- Lake Forest Hospital Pediatric Ward
- Northern Illinois Food Bank
All
you need is a willing heart?no special skills required! We try to find
activities and events that are packed with practical acts of service
and love. Plus many of the teens have developed an individual
relationship with members of the parish and other outside organizations
that need their love and support.
We feel our teens benefit in the following ways:
- learn about their community
- develop a sense of commitment to be there for those in need
- create meaningful friendships as they serve others
- see their faith in action
As
one CHS youth said: "Serving those in need is a powerful way to express
God's love. We are challenged to ask questions, to reflect on our
spirituality, to act on our goodwill, and to grow in our relationships
with each other and God. Simply put, it is memorable, stimulating, and
powerful."
