Senior High Youth Group:
Sundays with Youth

youth1.jpg
Our program continues to expand as we reach out to the high school students of our church.  We use our Sunday morning and Sunday evening programs to reach students by offering a variety of social, service and educational venues.

Every Sunday morning in the school year we offer BREAKFAST CLUB, which is a gathering time for high school students from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.  During this time we eat, catch up on our week and explore a faith topic.  Throughout the year we cover Bible stories as seen from a youth’s perspective, outreach opportunities and discussion of national news and how it impacts Christians, discussing the challenges of high school years and tackling the serious topics of drugs, sex, alcohol, peer pressure, parent pressure and the many other demands of being a teen.

Then all high school students are encouraged to return for SUPPER CLUB from 6:30 until 8 p.m.  Offering two time opportunities each Sunday allows students to choose a time that works for them and gives them some flexibility in their schedule.  Many students attend both events weekly.  Besides feeding them, which is a given, we use our evenings as a social, active time together (they are more awake than in the morning!).  Some of the things we do include:

  • Croquet and badminton on the lawn
  • Miniature golf
  • Hike to the beach for smores
  • Casserole baking night for needy families
  • Progressive dinners
  • Network for youth progressive dinner
  • House Eucharist
  • Yoga and de-stress before exams
  • Compline

Plus, we offer Lent and Advent Bible study program, work trips, movie outings, fellowship, service. We always enjoy our annual Lock-In, trips to Nuestra Senora, outdoor activities, progressive dinner with other community churches.   This year we took 55 teenagers and mentors on a work trip to an Lexington, North Carolina in June for a week.  (See the section on Work Trip for more information about this super-charged youth program.)
